Blended Tussar Sarees

Tussar is a wild silk, reeled from cocoons grown in forest tracts rather than farmed mulberry, and it carries a natural honey-gold tone and an uneven, slubbed texture that mulberry silk does not have. Blending tussar with other fibres keeps that character while softening the stiffness and bringing the price down. Tussar takes hand-painting and block printing exceptionally well, which is why Madhubani and Kalamkari motifs are so often found on these sarees.

Why does tussar silk feel different from regular silk?
Tussar is a wild silk reeled from forest-grown cocoons rather than farmed mulberry. The filament is shorter and less uniform, which produces the slubbed texture and natural honey-gold tone. It is coarser to the touch than mulberry silk, and that texture is exactly what tussar is valued for.
Are your sarees Silk Mark certified?
Yes. Every pure silk saree we sell carries the Silk Mark label issued by the Silk Mark Organisation of India, which certifies the fabric is genuine natural silk and not art silk or a synthetic blend. RAMI SILKS is authorised by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
How should I wash and store a silk saree?
Dry clean only. Never machine wash or wring a pure silk saree. Store it folded in a cotton or muslin cloth rather than plastic, refold along different lines every few months so permanent creases do not set at the same points, and keep it out of direct sunlight, which fades natural dyes.
